In A Related Discovery, Man Named ‘Mike’ Married a Woman Named Jen!

The CBC and other outlets are all worked up into a Tizzy about James Cameron’s latest docementary, purportedly proving that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, had children, and that his body has been found in a tomb in Israel (back in the 1980’s no less).

Well, far be it for me to undermine the work of a master scholar of antiquities such as James Cameron, but this thing is just one big pre-easter publicity stunt.

Imagine it! An old, jewish sarcophogus, with the name JOSHUA* on it!!! Oh, and MARY! Oh, And Joseph!!! SCANDAL!

The much vaunted ‘DNA tests’ only proved that the sarcophagus labelled ‘Joshua’ wasn’t related to the one labelled ‘Mary’, which means that some guy named Joshua was married to a woman named Mary. Imagine that!

It would be like someone named Mike marrying a woman named Jen. I wonder how many times that’s happened?

The reason why reputable scholars have completely ignored this is because in first century Israel, you couldn’t throw a stone in Jerusalem without hitting a guy named Joshua, having it bounce of him, hit a woman named Mary, and then come to rest at the feet of a guy named Joseph.

* Joshua = Yeshua in Hebrew, when transliterated into Greek it becomes ‘Jesus’.

Pure speculation but I do believe Jesus was married and had children but was not married to the one named Mary Magdelene.

Most historians would refrain from speculating when there is absence of evidence. In other words, if we don’t know, we shouldn’t pretend we do. I have no problem with a married Jesus. I have a problem with a publicity stunt where the rhetoric surpasses the historical evidence.
